How to Move a Transportable License in Keysight License Manager This article is part of the Licensing for Keysight Test & Measurement series of articles.
Overview A transportable license allows the use of a license on one system at a time but can be moved to another. Keysight License Manager offers several methods for transferring these types of licenses.
🗝 All license transport methods require internet access to reach Keysight Software Manager at some point, but it does not have to be the target PCs or instruments. 🗝 You do not need to be logged into Keysight.com or Keysight Software Manager for this!
Online Transport: Use when both targets have intent access – this is the option recommended by Keysight.
Offline Transport: Use when one or both instruments have no internet access, but some other computer does, and can save and move files through some method, such as, private LAN, a USB memory device or DVD Rear/Write device,
Manual Transport: Use for environments where the targets have no internet access and have file copying restrictions. License transfer is achieved by entering information manually.
Online Transport Transporting a license is simpler when both the current and target systems are connected to the internet and accessible on Keysight.com.
Open Keysight License Manager application, where the license is currently installed
Select Add Connection and enter the (localhost) of the Keysight License Manager instance from the target system where the license should be transported.
Select OK and connect to the system where the license should be transported.
In the main license view, right-click the license and select Transport from the pop-up menu to open the Transport License dialog box, where transport options are displayed.
Under Option 1, use the drop-down menu to select the target system for the license.
Select Transport.
A progress dialog will appear as License Manager removes the license from the current system and adds it to the target system. A confirmation message will appear upon successful transfer.
Select OK to close the confirmation and return to the main license view.
Offline Transport For instruments and PCs that are not connected to the internet, use the following offline transport procedure to move a license between these systems.
Open Keysight License Manager on the current system and locate the license in the main license view.
Right-click the license and select Delete. This displays a confirmation dialog box.
Select Yes to confirm the deletion. This deletes the license and creates a transport confirmation URL for the deleted license. When the deletion is complete, another dialog box appears.
Select Yes or No depending on whether your system is connected to the Internet or not.
Select Yes to transport the license using keysight.com.
A browser window will be opened to continue with the transport process.
Follow the steps on the Keysight Software Manager page to transport the license.
At this step, the Host ID of the target system will be required. This is available in the Keysight License Manager application on the target system.
Recommended: provide the email address to receive an email copy of the license file
Copy the license file to the destination system using USB storage device.
Load the license file into the Keysight License Manager application on the target system.
⚠ Current system is NOT connected to the Internet, or NEITHER system (current and targeted) is connected to the Internet
Select No to close the dialog.
Select the Wrench icon and then the Explore Transport URLs menu option. This opens a Windows Explorer folder and displays the URL files of transportable licenses.
Copy the license URL file to the target system or any system that has Internet access.
Open the URL file.
A browser window will be opened to continue with the transport process.
Follow the steps on the Keysight Software Manager page to transport the license.
At this step, the Host ID of the target system will be required. This is available in the Keysight License Manager application on the target system.
Recommended: provide the email address to receive an email copy of the license file
Save the license file locally if working directly on the target system or copy the file to the target system if saved elsewhere.
Install license from the file on the target system.
Manual Transport
This procedure is the most complex method for transferring a license. Keysight recommends using it only when working in highly secure environments with strict protocols that prevent file transfers between systems.
Open Keysight License Manager on the current system and locate the license in the main license view.
Right-click the license. Select Delete. This displays a confirmation dialog box.
Select Yes to confirm the deletion. This deletes the license and creates a transport confirmation URL for the deleted license.
When the deletion is complete, another dialog box appears. Select No.
Open the Windows Event Viewer. To launch Event Viewer, click Windows Start, type “Event Viewer” in the search program field.
Select Windows Logs > Application to view KeysightLicenseManager or AgilentLicenseService events.
If you do not see KeysightLicenseManager or AgilentLicenseService events:
Right-click Application, choose Filter Current Log
Click the arrow to display the drop-down list for the "Event sources" field.
Follow the steps on the Keysight Software Manager page to transport the license.
Please enter all the required information for the license, including the Current Host ID, Confirmation Code, Product Number, Order Number, Certificate Number, and Sequence Number.
At this step, the Host ID of the target system will be required. This is available in the Keysight License Manager application on the target system.
Recommended: provide the email address to receive an email copy of the license file
Download and save the new license file.
Use the license file to add the license on the target system
If the system allows external files or Internet access, simply copy the license file to the target system and install it directly.
If the system does not allow external files or Internet access, record or copy the license information and install the license using the "Install from Text" option.
Enter or paste the license data exactly as provided by Keysight, then click the Install button to complete the installation.
